Special Attractions Offered in Chipiona Tourism

Chipiona lies about 30 miles from Cadiz city. This is a resort town that is noted for its wonderful fine sandy beaches and fresh fish restaurants. It is a favored resort town by tourists during peak tourist seasons; people come from nearby Seville and all parts of Europe if they know of this quaint resort town. Otherwise, Chipiona is fairly quiet.

Main attractions

One of the main attractions in Chipiona is the natural iodine enriched spas which are excellent for health. This facility alone draws many to take advantage of its benefits. However, not many tourists know of this benefit; hence, Chipiona is not as crowded as other resort towns in Spain.

Nevertheless, Chipiona offers many good beaches; one of them is Playa del Camaron at its eastern side. The fine sandy beach is a great attraction; so is Playa de la Regla. Both beach resorts are awarded the European Blue Flag titles.

A different type of beach is found north of Chipiona; the Playa las Canteras is a slightly stony beach located near a local lighthouse. Water sports are in abundance in Chipiona resorts; one can easily enjoy snorkeling, windsurfing, skiing, sub aqua diving and kite surfing. These are very popular with the young or old tourists to Chipiona. The town also has a small harbor which offers sailing lessons from a sailing school.

Historical sights

The biggest Chipiona lighthouse is 230 feet high with its powerful beams viewed as far as 25 miles away during clear nights. This lighthouse was constructed on a previous Roman lighthouse warning mariners about the rough and dangerous waters around Salmedina Isle. The modern version of the lighthouse took five years from 1863 to 1867. There are 344 steps in this lighthouse to reach the top for some spectacular sights of the town and sea.

King Fernando III recaptured Chipiona around 1251 with a fortress built years later. The fort was given to some San Agustin monks in 1399. It was turned into a monastery named “Virgen de Regla” after one of the patron saints.

Natural beauty

Chipiona tourists can enjoy Donana National Park which is just situated a few miles north. This national park occupies a vast region of marshes near Guadalquivir River. Many flora and fauna thrive here with some exotic and endangered species such as the Imperial Eagle and rare Iberian Lynx, rent villas in spain. Large flocks of feathered species can be viewed here such as the herons, white storks and spoonbills. Tourists are allowed to roam the coastal park freely but cannot move inland as preservation of the flora and fauna is strictly enforced. Guided tours can be arranged for those who are interested in the interior park’s offerings.
